Australia: Network Aviation and QantasLink pilots' strike in Western Australia likely to continue through late-March /update 6

Network Aviation and QantasLink pilots likely to continue to strike in Western Australia, Australia, through late-March. Reconfirm flights.

Informational

The Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) will likely continue to strike across Western Australia through late-March to demand better compensation. Related work stoppage have been occurring intermittently since Feb. 8, resulting in the cancellation of flights between regional towns and mining sites. Organizers have called for the next strike to take place March 14-15.

While airlines will likely charter alternative aircraft during the work stoppage, the action will likely affect Network Aviation (NWK) flights, mainly specializing in emergency freight, mining, and private charter services, and scheduled flights operated on behalf of QantasLink (QLK) out of Perth Airport (PER) to destinations throughout Western Australia. Organizers may cancel the planned action at short notice if negotiations with Qantas Group management succeed; further strike extensions are possible in the coming weeks if talks fail.

Flight disruptions can last several hours after the strike ends as airlines reposition aircraft and clear passenger backlogs. Strike-related protests are possible, mainly near airports, airline offices, and public squares. Dozens of people may attend each event. Authorities could deploy increased security near any rallies that may materialize. Localized business and transport disruptions are possible at related gatherings.

Confirm flight status and reservations during the labor action period. Do not check out of accommodations or leave for the airport until onward travel is confirmed. Avoid all protests as a precaution.
