Cambodia: Planned power outages underway in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through March 10

Power outages to occur in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, Cambodia, through March 10 due to maintenance work. Transport disruptions likely.

Due to maintenance work, planned power outages will continue in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through March 10. Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge has announced that electricity disruptions will occur on the following days:

  • March 7: In parts of Boeung Keng Kang, Dangkor, Por Sen Chey, Sen Sok, and Toul Kork districts of Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00

  • March 8: In parts of Takhmao City, Kandal Province 08:00-13:00; in parts of Kambol, Meancey, Por Sen Chey, and Sen Sok districts of Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00

  • March 9: In parts of Chbar Ampov, Chroy Changva, Kambol, and Prek Pnov districts of Phnom Penh 08:00-13:00; in parts of Meanchey, Por Sen Chey, Prek Pnov, and Sen Sok districts of Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00

  • March 10: In parts of Kambol District of Phnom Penh 08:00-13:00; in parts of Por Sen Chey, Russey Keo, and Sen Sok districts of Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00

Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
