Cambodia: Planned power outages underway in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through at least March 17

Power outages to occur in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, Cambodia, through March 17 due to maintenance work. Transport disruptions likely.

Due to maintenance work, planned power outages will continue in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through March 17. Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge has announced that electricity disruptions will occur on the following days:

  • March 14: In Daun Penh, Sen Sok, Por Sen Chey, and Prek Pnov districts in Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00.

  • March 15: In Sen Sok, Por Sen Chey, and Prek Pnov districts in Phnom Penh 08:00-13:00. In Russey Keo and Por Sen Chey districts in Phnom Penh, as well as Takhmao City in Kandal Province 08:00-16:00.

  • March 16: In Sen Sok and Meanchey districts in Phnom Penh, 08:00-13:00. In Russey Keo and Sen Sok districts in Phnom Penh, 08:00-16:00.

  • March 17: In Russey Keo and Meanchey districts in Phnom Penh 08:00-13:00 and in Por Sen Chey District in Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00.

Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
