Germany: Farmers and freight workers to conduct vehicular protest in Berlin March 22

Farmers and freight workers to stage tractor rally in central Berlin, Germany, March 22. Road closures, transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Farmers and freight workers plan to protest in central Berlin March 22. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce government policies seen as adversely affecting the agricultural and cargo sectors. The demonstration occurs within the context of broader farmers' protests across the EU. Participants will drive slowly from outside Berlin in four columns into the city center before converging on Strasse des 17. Juni and rallying together at the Brandenburg Gate 12:00-17:00. Authorities expect significant transport disruptions near the rally site and across the Tiergarten neighborhood between 10:00 March 21 and 18:00 March 22. Approximately 1,000 vehicles will participate in the demonstration.

Planned routes include:

  • From Berlin state border in Frohnau, largely via B96 Berliner Strasse

  • From Berlin state border in Lichtenrade largely bia B96 Kirchhainer Damm

  • From Berlin state border in Mahlsdorf largely via B1/5

  • From Berlin state border in Staaken largely via B5 Heerstrasse

Transport disruptions are likely throughout central Berlin, particularly near Platz des 18. Marz, from early March 21 through early March 23, and will be most severe in the morning and afternoon of Mach 22. Heightened security is probable near the planned rally site March 22. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers and/or frustrated motorists are possible.

Allow additional time if traveling in central Berlin March 21-23. Avoid the planned rally as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
