Haiti: Flight disruptions likely to persist to and from Port-au-Prince through early March /update 2
Airlines likely to suspend flights at short notice to/from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, through early March. Confirm flights.
Airlines are likely to suspend flights at short notice to and from Port-au-Prince's Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP), through early March. American Airlines (AA), Sunrise Airways (S6), and Spirit Airlines (NK) all suspended numerous flights Feb. 29-March 1, following an upsurge in gang violence, including gunfire reportedly striking aircraft on the tarmac at PAP. Scheduled flights have resumed as of March 2. However, airlines will likely delay or cancel flights at short notice in response to the local situation in Port-au-Prince. As of March 1, the US Government reiterated its advice for US citizens not to travel to Haiti.
Other airlines could take similar measures should the surge in violence continue. Flights may be delayed, canceled, or otherwise rescheduled with little to no advance notice. Disruptions to road routes leading to and from the airport may also be increasingly impacted.
Reconfirm or reschedule flight reservations if booked to travel via PAP through at least March 10. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional time to travel to the airport. Reconfirm the status of road routes before departure. Consider booking alternative travel arrangements if necessary. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations.
