Haiti: Flight disruptions to and from Port-au-Prince likely to persist through mid-March /update 3
Airlines likely to suspend flights on short notice to and from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, through mid-March. Confirm flights.
Major flight disruptions will likely continue at Port-au-Prince's Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) through at least mid-March. As of March 4, nearly all commercial flights at the airport have been canceled. Air Caraibes (TX), Air Century (Y2), American Airlines (AA), InterCaribbean Airways (JY), JetBlue Airways (B6), Spirit Airlines (NK), and Sunrise Airways (S6), as well as cargo airline Amerijet International (M6), have all suspended flights following an upsurge in gang violence, that included gunfire reportedly striking aircraft on the tarmac at PAP. While some service may be intermittently restored, airlines will likely delay, cancel, or otherwise modify scheduled flights on short notice in response to the situation in Port-au-Prince.
As a result of the violence, the Canadian and US governments reiterated their advice to their respective citizens not to travel to Haiti, and civil aviation authorities in the Dominican Republic recommended that airlines avoid all service to PAP. These warnings may prompt additional flight cancellations should violence remain at elevated levels in the capital.
Reconfirm or reschedule flight reservations if booked to travel via PAP through mid-March. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional time to travel to the airport. Reconfirm the status of road routes before departure. Consider booking alternative travel arrangements if necessary. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation.
