UK: Pro-Palestine activists to march through central London March 9
Pro-Palestine activists to march from Hyde Park to US Embassy in London, UK, from 12:00 March 9. Transport disruptions likely.
Pro-Palestine activists associated with the Stop the War campaign plan to demonstrate in central London March 9. Participants will gather at Hyde Park Corner at 12:00 before marching to the US Embassy on Nine Elms Lane. The route will take demonstrators south along Grosvenor Place to Vauxhall Bridge Road; after crossing the River Thames, participants will turn onto the Riverside Walk and continue to Nine Elms Lane. Authorities estimate that at least 30,000 participants will attend; however, previous similar demonstrations in London have drawn significantly larger crowds.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route. Disruptions to underground rail services are possible at Hyde Park Corner station in the late morning, as well as Battersea Power Station, Nine Elms, and Vauxhall stations after the demonstration ends. Though previous related demonstrations remained largely peaceful, confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers, or among groups of rival activists cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the march route and rally areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near demonstration areas. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
