Anti-abortion protest march and counterprotest near St Mary's Cathedral and Parliament House Sydney, Australia, morning of April 14.

Informational

Life and Family Institute, an anti-abortion organization, is planning a protest march to commemorate the Day of the Unborn Child, April 14. The march starts from St Mary's Cathedral from 10:30. The activists will rally at Parliament House 12:00, before ending the march at St Mary's Cathedral at 13:30. Previous similar demonstrations attracted hundreds of participants.

In parallel, abortion rights activists led by the University of Sydney Women's Collective plan to stage a counterdemonstration from 10:00 opposite St. Mary's Cathedral. Dozens of protesters could join the action.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence at the rally sites and along the march route. Localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route. Clashes between activists of opposing groups are possible.

Avoid the protest sites due to possible clashes. Allow additional time for travel to nearby destinations; use alternative routes to circumvent the rally site. Heed all local security and traffic advisories.
