Canada: Activists organize protests in Edmonton, Alberta, April 13
Activists organize protests in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, April 13 to denounce several policies; heightened security, disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with the Alberta4Liberty group have organized protests in Edmonton, Alberta, on April 13 to denounce several policies, including federal carbon taxation. Protest organizers have reportedly launched a slow-roll protest around the Alberta Legislature that will last until around 13:00. Following the slow-roll protest, activists are slated to rally at the South Bandshell on the Alberta Legislature Grounds from 13:00 and stage a subsequent "bridge march." Protest organizers did not immediately specify the intended route or destination of the bridge march; however, the march will likely disrupt traffic on at least one of Edmonton's bridges that span the North Saskatchewan River. The number of people that would participate in the demonstrations was not immediately clear. Police have advised that the protest activity may disrupt traffic in central parts of the city, including near 109 Street, 105 Street, Jasper Avenue, and the Alberta Legislature.
Authorities will likely deploy a heightened security presence to the vicinities of the protests. Transport disruptions are likely in areas that are subject to protest activity and heightened security; officials may divert vehicular traffic or close local roads on short notice. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all protest activity as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent protest-affected areas and any related disruptions. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
