France: Unionized nurses demonstrating in Paris on April 4 /update 1

Unionized nurses demonstrating in Paris, France on April 4, as part of nationwide protest. Disruptions likely.

Warning

Unionized nurses are demonstrating in Paris as of April 4, as part of a nationwide protest demanding increased salaries and improving working conditions. Participants are gathered on Avenue Duquesne, near the French Ministry of Health. Demonstrations are also ongoing in Place de la Bastille, Paris, as of the morning of April 4. Several hundred to a few thousand demonstrators are participating in both protest sites.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all demonstration sites. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid all protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near demonstration sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.

Previous demonstrations occurred in a number of French cities on April 2. The largest demonstrations were planned in Marseille, Strasbourg, and Toulouse. Further demonstrations could occur in the upcoming weeks. No violence was reported in these demonstrations.
