A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) explosion occurred near a police station in El Wak, Mandera County, the morning of April 29. Initial reports indicate at least 12 people died in the blast. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack; however, Al-Shabaab is active in the area.

Increased security or temporary closures at the border are also possible. Similar attacks and clashes with security forces are possible near the Kenyan-Somali border.

Individuals in Kenya are advised to monitor developments, avoid nonessential travel to areas near the Kenyan-Somali border due to the risk of terror-related violence, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

Al-Shabaab continues to regularly carry out attacks near the porous border with Somalia as well as in coastal areas in retaliation for Kenya's participation in a multinational force fighting Al-Shabaab in Somalia since 2011.
