Militants attack bus, kill civilians near Naushki, Balochistan Province, Pakistan, April 13; casualties occur.

Armed assailants carried out an attack on a bus on a highway near Naushki, Balochistan Province, April 13. According to reports, the assailants stopped the bus, singled out migrant laborers from neighboring Punjab Province and shot them, leaving nine of them dead. The militants also opened fire on the vehicle of a local legislator shortly afterwards; the driver and another occupant were killed. The legislator was not in the vehicle at the time.

Muslim Bagh is approximately 115 km (71 miles) southwest of Quetta.

Security forces will likely maintain heightened security in the area in the coming hours. In addition, officials may close roadways in the area or implement other movement-restrictive measures.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Carry personal identification documents. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time in the area.

Both Islamist and Baloch separatist groups are present in Balochistan Province, though given the nature of the attack, Baloch separatists are more likely responsible for the incident.
