Argentina: Protesters likely to continue blocking highways and roads in Missiones Province through at least May 19
Demonstrators in Misiones Province, Argentina, likely to continue blocking roads and highways through at least May 19. Avoid all protests.
Protesting teachers are likely to continue holding demonstrations and blocking roads and highways throughout Misiones Province until at least May 19. As of May 16, teachers have blocked National Route 12 in Eldorado, El Alcazar, and Posadas and National Route 14 in Cerro Azul and San Vicente.
Further protests are planned for May 17 in Santo Pipo, Puerto Rico, Garahuape, and Puerto Libertad. On May 18, demonstrators will gather at Playa 9 de Julio in Posadas and march to the provincial legislature. Additional demonstrations are likely throughout the province.
The demonstrations and roadblocks will likely cause major transport and business disruptions throughout Misiones Province and hinder the flow of trade between Argentina and neighboring Paraguay and Brazil. Police are likely to deploy to monitor demonstrations, and clashes between protesters and police are possible.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a non-governmental building. Allow for additional transport time throughout Misiones Province, seek alternative routes that bypass demonstrations, and consider delaying transport until highways reopen. Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them instead. Reconfirm business appointments. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
