Increased security likely after explosion near Bujumbura's central market and in the Ngagara district, Burundi, May 10. Casualties reported.

Warning

Authorities will likely maintain increased security over the coming days in the vicinity of Bujumbura's central market near the city's bus station, as well as in the Ngagara district following several grenade explosions that occurred late May 10. Unconfirmed reports indicate at least three people were killed and 14 others injured in the blasts. The motive behind the attacks remains unknown. There have as yet been no claims of responsibility for the incident.

Localized business and transport disruptions are likely near the incident site into at least the morning hours of May 11.

Avoid the scenes of the explosions until authorities have secured the areas in question and given the all-clear. Allow extra time to reach destinations in affected parts of the city.
