Canada: Activist groups plan opposing demonstrations in central Quebec City, Quebec Province, June 1

Abortion rights, anti-abortion activists to stage opposing gatherings in downtown Quebec City, Canada, from 11:00 June 1.

Warning

Activists will hold opposing demonstrations in Quebec City on June 1. Anti-abortion activists plan to gather for a March for Life event at the Tourny Fountain at 11:00 before marching through Quebec City from 13:00 to 15:00. The demonstration will culminate at the National Assembly, where organizers will hold a rally following the march; the event will conclude at 16:00. In response to this event, abortion rights activists will stage a counter-demonstration at the Francophonie Park from 11:45-14:00 before leaving via bus to the national assembly at 15:00. Both demonstrations will likely be well-attended and attract several hundred participants.

Although the action should pass largely peacefully, authorities will likely maintain a heightened security posture as a precaution. Transport and business disruptions are likely near the area. While not likely, clashes between both opposing demonstrators and the security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to disperse the gatherings forcibly.

Exercise caution near demonstrations. Plan for localized transit and business disruptions. Heed the directives of authorities.
