Emergency services have recovered the helicopter transporting Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi near Khunirud, East Azerbaijan Province, as of early May 20. Raisi, along with eight other passengers, has been reported dead. The helicopter crashed May 19 as Raisi returned from a state event at the Qiz Qalasi Dam near the Azerbaijan-Iran border.
