Martinique: Water utility outages to continue into at least late May due to lack of rain /update 2

Water outages will continue to affect Martinique into at least late May. Officials restrict businesses' water consumption.

Informational

Water service disruptions will likely continue in parts of Martinique until at least late May due to a lack of rainfall. The Community Water and Sanitation Authority (La Regie Communautaire de l'Eau et de l'Assainissement, ODYSSI) has announced additional water service outages in several parts of the island through at least May 24. Planned outages in the coming days will mainly affect parts of Fort-de-France, Lamentin, Schoelcher, and Saint-Joseph, among others. For a full listing of water cut-offs, click here. ODYSSI will likely extend the measures if the dry spell continues.

Given the current water shortages, officials have imposed several measures, including limiting businesses' water consumption and prohibiting washing vehicles and boats. In recent weeks, around 20 schools in Martinique have also had to suspend classes or reduce hours due to water shortages.

Some business disruptions are likely to persist, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water for operations. Disruptions to essential services and protests cannot be ruled out.

Confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after normal service resumes; consider running taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
