Philippines: Activist groups plan to rally at Manila Film Center and Senate of the Philippines in Manila from 14:00 May 22

Activists from several groups, including ACT Philippines, Caritas Philippines, and League of Filipino Students, plan to rally at Manila Film Center from 14:00 and Senate of the Philippines from 15:00 May 22. The action is to denounce several initiatives by the current administration, including President Marcos Jr.'s signature campaign to amend the 1987 Consitution of the Philippines (also known as Charter Change or Cha-Cha), based on perceptions that the amendments would pave the way for Marcos to keep himself in power. While turnout remains unclear, dozens to a few hundred people could attend each gathering.

Heightened security measures are likely at rally sites, including security barricades around the Senate building. Counterrallies are possible. Isolated scuffles between opposing groups of activists or between protesters and security personnel may occur. Localized transport disruptions are likely, especially if demonstrators occupy nearby roads.
