At least 150 firefighters are responding to a large fire at a waste plant in Zapresic, just west of Zagreb, as of late June 19. Authorities have advised residents of Zapresic and Bistra to remain indoors with doors and windows closed due to the potential impacts from harmful gases. The cause of the blaze remains unclear; there are no immediate reports of casualties.

The smoke from the fire may noticeably worsen air quality in the surrounding area, including parts of Zagreb. Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until firefighting operations are complete. Localized transport and business disruptions will probably continue for several hours. Officials may close local roads or expand air quality warning to encompass additional areas, including parts of Zagreb itself, with little to no warning. Rail travel disruptions are possible at the nearby Novi Dvori station.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time for travel near the affected area. Follow all instructions from security personnel, including any evacuation orders. Reconfirm planned travel via Novi Dvori railway station in Zapresic.
