France: Unionized public transport personnel to strike in Lille June 21

Unionized public transport workers plan to strike in Lille, France, June 21. Public transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized workers employed by Ilevia, Lille's public transport operator, plan to strike June 21. The purpose of the labor action is to demand increased bonuses for work related to the upcoming Paris Olympics; the walkout is also meant to coincide with the Lille Music Festival (Fete de la Musique). The following restrictions will be in place:

  • Buses: Lines 30, 35, 36, CITL, C10, C11, C12, MWR, and Z6 will be out of service. Other lines may run with modified frequencies.

  • Metro: The final Line 1 train will depart Gare Lille-Flandres at 13:30. Line 2 trains will not start until 15:00. Line 2 will then resume service, but only between Lomme Saint-Philibert and Fort de Mons until 01:30 June 22.

  • Tram: Departure frequency will be reduced.

Bus, metro, and tram disruptions are likely throughout the day and may carry over into stated service periods and the morning hours of June 22. Picket protests are possible at public transport hubs, particularly Gare Lille-Flandres; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that take shape. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Allow additional time for all travel via Ilevia on June 21 and in the early hours of June 22. Consider alternate means of transport to avoid planned disruptions. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
