Guinea: Demonstrators block roads in Conakry June 4
Protesters block roads in multiple areas of Conakry, Guinea, June 4. Increased security and localized disruptions likely; clashes possible.
Protesters are blocking roads in multiple areas of Conakry June 4 to denounce ongoing power outages in the city. Earlier in the day, residents barricaded South Corniche Road in Matam District. Police reportedly deployed in the area and used tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd. Demonstrators are also reportedly blocking Le Prince Road between Hamdallaye and Bambeto.
Increased security and localized transport disruptions are almost certain over the coming hours. If the power outages continue, further unrest and clashes are possible.
Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the protest activity and related disruptions. If violence breaks out in your location, immediately leave the vicinity and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Remain polite and nonconfrontational if stopped at a security checkpoint or questioned by police. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials and your home government.
