This is due to clashes occurring on June 17 by several communities over the alleged slaughter of cows. The incident escalated with stone pelting, break-in, and entry, and vehicles set on fire reported, and 15 people were injured.

Under Section 144, public gatherings of more than five people, loudspeakers, and microphones are prohibited. The carrying of weapons and the possession and use of fireworks is also banned. Authorities have also implemented a curfew and internet restrictions across Balasore until midnight on June 18.

Officials could expand security measures to other surrounding areas as a precaution or if tensions persist. Associated transport disruptions are likely. Protests by the local community against the implementation of Section 144 are possible. Clashes between police, demonstrators, and rival communities cannot be ruled out. Localized business disruptions are possible.
