Kenya: Activists to protest in several areas in Mombasa on June 19
Activists to protest at Makadara Grounds, Pembe Za Ndovu, Mwembe Tayari Road in Mombasa, Kenya, from 09:00 June 19. Tight security likely.
Activists plan to protest in at least three locations in Mombasa on June 19. The purpose of the action is to denounce the proposed Finance Bill 2024, which critics assert will entail new taxes and fees on essential goods and services. Participants will gather at Makadara Grounds, Pembe Za Ndovu (Mombasa Tusks), and Mwembe Tayari Road from 09:00. Additional demonstrations are possible in other areas, especially near government buildings.
While organizers have stated the demonstrations will pass peacefully, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence to monitor the events. Localized transport disruptions are likely. Though unlikely, clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if authorities try to disperse protestors forcibly.
Avoid the impacted areas as a standard precaution. Immediately leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed all instructions from local authorities.
