Latin America: LGBTQ pride marches planned in several cities June 22
Pride Month-related marches planned in several cities throughout Latin America June 22. Disruptions possible.
Members and supporters of the LGBTQ community plan to participate in marches in multiple cities across Latin America June 22 as part of their annual Pride Month celebrations. Marches typically follow major thoroughfares, often passing through public squares and near government buildings. Organizers have confirmed the following events:
Quito, Ecuador: March from Plataforma Gubernamental Norte, along Avenida Amazonas, to Parque Bicentenario, starting at 10:00.
El Alto, Bolivia: March from Plaza del Obelisco to Avenida 6 de Marzo, starting at 15:00.
Puebla, Mexico: March from Parque Juarez to Zocalo de Puebla, starting at 15:00.
Cancun, Mexico: March from Malecon Tajamar to Plaza de la Reforma, starting at 16:30.
La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico: March from Parque Morelos to Paloma de la Paz, starting at 17:30.
Previous similar events have drawn very large numbers of participants, prompting localized transport and business disruptions. While the marches will likely remain largely peaceful, minor isolated skirmishes cannot be ruled out if counterdemonstrators attempt to assemble nearby. Police will likely deploy to monitor and facilitate the events.
Exercise caution around event venues as a precaution. Allow additional travel time to reach destinations near announced march locations; seek alternative routes if necessary. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
