Pakistan: Authorities implement Section 144 security measures in Punjab Province until June 27

Officials of the Punjab Province have announced the implementation of increased security measures under Section 144 until June 27. The order comes after a series of counter-terror operations and amid protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and sections of medical workers. Under section 144, public gatherings with over four people, sit-ins, rallies, and protests are prohibited. The carrying of weapons and the possession and use of fireworks is also banned.

Officials could expand security measures to other surrounding areas as a precaution or if tensions persist. Associated transport disruptions are likely. Protests by the local community against the implementation of Section 144 are possible. Clashes between police and demonstrators cannot be ruled out. Localized business disruptions are possible.
