Puerto Rico: Activists to protest recent power outages in San Juan June 14 and 15

Activists to demonstrate LUMA Energy in San Juan, Puerto Rico, June 14 and 15. Localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Activists plan to demonstrate against Puerto Rico's electrical utility provider LUMA Energy in San Juan on June 14 and 15. The purpose of the action is to denounce power outages that affected at least 340,000 customers on June 12 and to demand that the government cancel its contract with the company, among other things. The gathering on June 14 will occur near LUMA Energy headquarters starting at 16:30, while the protest on June 15 will occur near La Fortaleza, the Governor's residence, from 09:00.

While the gatherings will probably remain largely peaceful, an increased security presence is possible nearby. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to disperse crowds forcibly. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely.

Avoid the protests as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a safe nongovernmental building. Do not attempt to drive through protester-erected roadblocks; wait for the police to dismantle them before proceeding. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the protest location. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
