Increased security measures and localized disruptions will likely persist in central Newry through the early afternoon of June 20 after police conducted a controlled explosion following the discovery of a suspicious device. The device was discovered on Monaghan Road in the city center. Police have not confirmed whether the device was viable, but controlled explosions can be conducted out of an abundance of caution. Monaghan Road remains closed and traffic disruptions are likely impacting surrounding streets. Newry is located approximately 54 km (33 miles) southwest of Belfast.
