US: Flight disruptions likely to affect airports in Chicago, Ill., through at least late June 16 due to severe weather

Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, will likely continue to affect airports in Chicago, Illinois, through at least late June 16 due to thunderstorms impacting the region. As of around 18:25, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had issued a ground delay program for O'Hare International Airport (ORD) that was slated to remain in effect until at least 22:59; flight departures to ORD were delayed by an average of 143 minutes. The FAA may modify or rescind the ground delay program on short notice.

The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in Chicago over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.

Confirm flight schedules if booked to travel via an airport in Chicago through at least late June 16; do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
