Pride Month-related marches planned in several cities throughout the US June 8-9.
Members and supporters of the LGBTQ community plan to participate in marches in multiple cities across the US June 8-9 as part of their annual Pride Month celebrations. Marches typically follow major thoroughfares, often passing through public squares and near government buildings. Organizers have confirmed the following events:
Boston, Mass.: March from Copley Square to Boston Common, starting at 11:00 June 8; additional events at Boston Common and City Hall Plaza between 12:00-20:00 June 8
Kansas City, Missouri: March from Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard to Theis Park, starting at 11:00 June 8
Washington, DC: March from 14th and T streets NW, to Pennsylvania Avenue NW and 9th Street NW, starting at 15:00 June 8
New Orleans, Louisiana: March from Maringy District to Bourbon Street and Dumaine Street, starting at 18:00 June 8
Los Angeles, Calif.: March from Highland Avenue and Sunset Boulevard to Cahuenga Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard, starting at 11:00 June 9
Sacramento, Calif.: March from Southside Park to California State Capitol, starting at 11:00 June 9
Previous similar events have drawn very large numbers of participants, prompting localized transport and business disruptions. While the marches will likely remain largely peaceful, minor isolated skirmishes cannot be ruled out if counterdemonstrators attempt to assemble nearby. Police will likely deploy to monitor and facilitate the events.
Exercise caution around event venues as a precaution. Allow additional travel time to reach destinations near announced march locations; seek alternative routes if necessary. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
