Activists marching toward French Embassy in Port Vila, Vanuatu, as of the afternoon of June 7. Increased security, disruptions likely.

Informational

Dozens of activists led by Vanuatu Solidarity for Kanaky are marching toward the French Embassy in Port Vila as of the afternoon of June 7. Protesters had been gathering at Saralana Park since 13:00 ahead of the protest march to show solidarity with the Kanak people in New Caledonia following a period of violent unrest in mid-May. The demonstration will end by 17:00.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route and near the French Embassy. Although violence is unlikely, isolated scuffles are possible if police attempt to forcibly disperse the gathering.

Avoid the protest march as a precaution. In the event of violence, leave the area immediately for a secure, nongovernment building. Allow additional time for travel to nearby destinations; use alternative routes to circumvent march route and demonstration site. Heed all local security and traffic advisories.
