Supporters of former president Evo Morales from District 8 gathered in several locations across the Senkata area in El Alto on July 26. Heightened security has been reported along Avenida Tokio, as Morales is reportedly planning to visit the area.
Significant traffic disruptions are likely for the duration of the protest activity, including disruptions to and from El Alto International Airport (LPB). Protesters may disrupt traffic along the La Paz-Oruro highway (National Route 1). Clashes between security forces and demonstrators are also possible, especially if police attempt to forcibly disperse the protesters. Counter protests are possible, and clashes involving opposing groups of demonstrators cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protests as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Allow for additional transport time if operating in the affected areas. Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them instead.
