Informational

Activists and village leaders from South Lebak Regency in Banten Province plan to demonstrate at the State Palace and House of Representatives (DPR RI) building in Jakarta July 31. Participants will gather at Malingping Square in Lebak before heading for the main protest sites in Jakarta by car. While the start time of the event remains unclear, activists typically start demonstrating from noon. The action is to demand the ratification of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) Cilangkahan as a new district that would allegedly accelerate and equalize the region's development. Organizers claim up to 5,000 supporters will join the event.

Increased security measures are likely around the protest sites July 31. Measures may include the deployment of security personnel and imposition of traffic restrictions such as security cordons, diversions, and road closures. Minor scuffles are possible, especially if police attempt to disperse demonstrators trying to bypass security barriers. Traffic disruptions are likely along Jalan Majapahit, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, and Jalan Veteran around the State Palace, as well as Jalan Gerbang Pemuda, Jalan Lapangan Tembak Senayan, Jalan Tentara Pelajar, and Jalan Tol Dalam Kota Jakarta around the DPR RI Building, especially if activists hold road blockades. Additional unannounced gatherings may occur at Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue and the Constitutional Court building in Jakarta; supporters may also demonstrate at the Governor, Regent, and Mayor offices in Banten.

Avoid the protest sites as a precaution. In the event of scuffles, leave the area immediately for a secure, nongovernment building. Allow additional time for travel to nearby destinations; do not navigate roadblocks. Monitor trusted local media for protest updates, as organizers may not announce them in advance. Heed all local security and traffic advisories.
