Mexico: Multiple activist groups organize demonstrations in Mexico City July 27

Multiple activist groups organize demonstrations in Mexico City, Mexico, July 27; heightened security and localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Multiple activist groups have organized demonstrations in Mexico City on July 27. The most disruptive gatherings will likely be the following two protest marches:

  • Approximately 250 members of Mexico Crazy Pride Network (Red Orgullo Loco Mexico) are slated to gather at the Angel de la Independencia at 14:00 before marching toward Estela de Luz. The purpose of the protest is to denounce discrimination against those using mental health services.

  • Around 300 members of the Iztacalco Diversity Unit (Unidad Diversidad Iztacalco) were reportedly scheduled to gather at Kiosco Plaza San Matias from 11:00 and then march toward the Esplanade of the Iztacalco City Hall to demand greater inclusiveness vis-a-vis LGBTQ individuals.

Although the gatherings should remain largely peaceful, authorities will likely deploy an increased police presence near the demonstrations as a precaution. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely along the march routes.

Avoid the demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near impacted areas. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
