Mexico: Transport disruptions likely to persist on Arco Norte highway in Mexico State through at least July 29 due to ongoing protest activity

Protesting landowners likely to continue blocking traffic on Arco Norte in Mexico State, Mexico, through at least July 29.

Warning

Traffic disruptions will likely persist on the Arco Norte (Federal Highway M40D) in Mexico State through at least July 29 due to ongoing protest activity by a group of local landowners. Landowners from Mexico, Tlaxcala, and Hidalgo states have begun blocking the thoroughfare at Kilometer Marker 148 near Santa Maria Actipac. The purpose of the action is to demand that the government pay the compensation promised to the landowners in exchange for using their properties to construct the highway. The demonstration is primarily prompting traffic congestion for motorists traveling along the border between Mexico and Hidalgo states.

Disruptions to local transit and heightened security are likely for the duration of the protest. Clashes are possible if security forces try to disperse protesters.

Avoid the area of the demonstration as a precaution. Consider alternative routes to circumvent any resulting traffic congestion. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
