Peru: State of emergency extend and expand in the Pataz, Trujillo, and Viru provinces of La Libertad Department through Aug. 11 /update 1
Authorities in Peru extend and expand state of emergency in La Libertad Department's Pataz, Trujillo, and Viru provinces through Aug. 11.
Authorities extended a state of emergency previously declared in the Pataz and Trujillo provinces of La Libertad Department through at least Aug. 11 and expanded the state of emergency to also cover the department's Viru Province due to high crime rates. Under the emergency measures, some constitutional rights, including the rights to assembly, transit, and freedom from warrantless searches, are suspended. The decree also allows the armed forces to assist the National Police in conducting law-enforcement activities.
Police and military forces are likely to implement additional security measures, including checkpoints and identification checks, throughout the affected areas. Transport disruptions are possible.
Heed the instructions of security personnel. Allow for additional transport time in areas where authorities are conducting identification checks.
