South Africa: Flight disruptions reported at Cape Town International Airport amid power outage late July 28

Power outage prohibits flights from landing at or departing from Cape Town International Airport in Cape Town, South Africa, late July 28.

Warning

Airports Company South Africa officials have reported that power supply disruptions have affected runway lights, airside fire rescue services, and air traffic navigation services at Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town as of late July 28, preventing flights from landing at or departing from the facility. Technicians have reportedly begun work to determine and fix the cause of the power supply issue. Authorities did not immediately specify when the power supply issue would be fully resolved.

Flight delays and cancellations will almost certainly continue to affect CPT until the power supply issue is resolved. Residual disruptions are possible even after power is restored as airlines work to clear any passenger backlogs that have materialized.

Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via CPT; do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
