Syria: Alleged projectile attack targets vicinity of US-led coalition base in Deir Ez-Zur Governorate late July 4

Alleged projectile attack targets vicinity of US-led coalition base in Deir Ez-Zur Governorate, Syria, late July 4; avoid the area.

Informational

A projectile attack has allegedly targeted the Conoco Oil Field in Syria's Deir Ez-Zur Governorate as of late July 4. The site hosts a military base that belongs to the US and its coalition partners. There have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant material damage. While no group immediately claimed responsibility for the alleged attack, the incident comes a few weeks after Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS), an Iraqi Shi'a militia group, blamed the US for a June 21 strike on a vehicle near the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Iranian-backed militia fighters may launch additional projectile attacks targeting US-led coalition bases in eastern Syria over the coming days. The alleged July 4 projectile attack and any additional assaults may prompt retaliatory strikes from US-led coalition forces over the short term.

Avoid the area until the situation normalizes. Heed the instructions of security forces. If an attack alert is issued in the general vicinity, stay indoors and away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor, basement, or bunker. Maintain contact with your country's diplomatic mission.
