UK: Activist groups to gather near Town Hall in Southport, July 30

Activists plan two separate gatherings near Southport Town Hall, UK, the evening of July 30. Increased security, disruptions likely.

Warning

Activists and residents plan to gather in central Southport on the evening of July 30 in solidarity with the victims of a July 29 knife attack in the town. In the earlier of the two gatherings, activists will gather outside Southport Town Hall on Lord Street at 17:00 for a rally. At 18:00, politicians, residents, and activists will hold a vigil outside The Atkinson Theatre adjacent to the Town Hall. Although attendance levels are unclear, several hundred people could attend both gatherings. Unconfirmed gatherings by anti-immigration or nationalist activists are also possible in the area the evening of July 30.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions will likely accompany any demonstrations that occur in Southport. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out. Bystanders would face an incidental risk should any violence occur.

Exercise caution near the protest area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the affected area on July 30. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
