Police have reportedly since cleared the protesters from the immediate vicinity of the mosque. Police have enforced a Section 60 Order, effective through at least the evening of July 31, which extends the deployment of officers in the area and gives them enhanced stop and search powers. A Section 34 Order is also in place, allowing police to direct people who are engaging in antisocial behavior.

The outbreak of unrest came after hundreds of people gathered in Southport for a vigil in support of the victims of the July 29 stabbing attack at a dance workshop held at a studio on Hart Street. The attack killed three children and left 10 other people wounded.
