Activists affiliated with the Stand with Ukraine movement will hold nationwide rallies and related events on Aug. 24 to commemorate Kyiv's independence day. Events are planned at several locations in various urban centers; however, the most significant events will likely occur in:

  • Brisbane: Ukrainian Festival at Holland Park from 11:00-17:00.

  • Canberra: Rallies at the Embassy of the Russian Federation at 10:00 and Queen Elizabeth II Island at an unspecified time.

  • Geelong: Independence Day Gathering at Ukrainian Community Hall on Pakington Street, 12:00.

  • Melbourne: Ukrainian Independence Day Rallies and gatherings at:

    • Federation Square, 14:00-16:00.

    • Lithuanian Club, 18:00-23:30.

    • Noble Park, 13:00.

    • Ukrainian House on Russell Street, 10:00-17:00.

  • Sydney: Ukrainian Independence Day gatherings at:

    • Balmain Town Hall, 09:30.

    • Sydney Town Hall, 16:00-18:00.

Additional gatherings are possible in these locations and other cities, especially near major government buildings, public squares, parks, and roadways. Larger gatherings in major towns will likely draw thousands of participants. Authorities may monitor the rallies and attempt to disperse disruptive gatherings. Isolated skirmishes between demonstrators and police and between members of opposing groups are possible. Security personnel may cordon off specific gathering sites, particularly near government buildings. Activists may march along roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions.
