Canada: Partial systems outage on automated customs inspection kiosks prompting disruptions at airports nationwide Aug. 20
Partial systems outage on automated kiosks prompts customs processing delays at airports across Canada Aug. 20.
Several airports across Canada are experiencing a partial systems outage impacting automated kiosks at customs clearance stations as of Aug. 20. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is working to resolve the issue; however, the agency has given no estimate as to when the system will resume normal operation. Initial reports indicate the outage involves the automated primary inspection kiosks (PIK) used for customs screening during the border process at airports. Minor delays have been reported at Toronto Pearson International (YYZ), Vancouver International (YVR) and Montreal-Trudeau International (YUL) airports.
Airport authorities are working to implement alternate methods to continue processing passengers. Officials are advising travelers delays are possible at airports across Canada. Customs clearance disruptions, and potentially some flight delays could continue for several hours.
Arrive at the airport early and allow extra time to clear customs is departing Canada on an international flight through the end of Aug. 20. Contact airlines to confirm individual flight schedules.
