Georgia: Political activists to rally in central Tbilisi Aug. 23
Pro-Ukrainian activists plan to march and demonstrate in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 18:40 Aug. 23; increased security likely.
Pro-Ukrainian activists plan to gather and march on the Bridge of Peace in central Tbilisi from 18:40 Aug. 23; the event is organized on the occasion of Ukraine's Day of the National Flag and aims at showing support to Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia. Demonstrators will gather on the eastern side of the Bridge of Peace and will cross it from 19:00; the demonstration will end on the western bank of the Kura River, near the bridge. Several hundred people to the low thousand participants are likely to attend.
Authorities will likely deploy increased security to monitor the event; localized road travel and transport disruptions are likely on both sides of the Bridge of Peace through late Aug. 23. Violence is not anticipated; however, minor confrontations between demonstrators and political opponents are possible.
As a standard precaution, avoid the demonstration. Plan for some localized road travel delays in the area.
