Indonesia: Workers plan to march toward Jalan MT Haryano in South Jakarta the afternoon of Aug. 19
Activists plan to march from various locations to Jalan MT Haryano in South Jakarta, Indonesia, Aug. 19. Localized disruptions likely.
Unionized fast food restaurant workers plan to stage a march toward the KFC office along Jalan MT Haryano in South Jakarta the afternoon of Aug. 19 to denounce layoffs. Participants have gathered at various start points such as Perum Bulog, Ministry of Manpower, and BEI buildings, as well as KFC offices along Jalan MT Haryano and Jalan Falatehan I since 09:00. Up to a few hundred people may join the main rally.
Increased security measures are likely around the gathering sites through Aug. 19. Measures may include the deployment of security personnel and imposition of traffic restrictions such as security cordons, diversions, and road closures. Minor scuffles are possible, especially if police attempt to disperse demonstrators. Traffic disruptions are especially likely along Jalan MT Haryano, mainly if activists hold road blockades. Additional unannounced gatherings may occur at other popular protest sites like the State Palace and Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue.
Avoid the protest sites as a precaution. In the event of scuffles, leave the area immediately for a secure, nongovernment building. Allow additional time for travel to nearby destinations; do not navigate roadblocks. Monitor trusted local media for protest updates, as organizers may not announce them in advance. Heed all local security and traffic advisories.
