Warning

Firefighters continue to respond to a major blaze at an oil depot near Proletarsk, Aug. 22. The fire is burning for a fifth day following a Ukrainian drone strike on Aug. 18. At least 47 firefighters have been injured, and authorities have declared a state of emergency in Proletarsk. Several hundred firefighters are likely tackling the blaze. Authorities have closed roads leading to the oil depot.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until firefighters extinguish the blaze and give the all-clear. Localized transport and business disruptions will likely affect the vicinity of the fire over the coming hours. Officials may close local roads or issue evacuation orders on short notice to facilitate the emergency response and ensure public safety. The fire has reportedly emitted thick, black smoke, which may worsen the surrounding area's air quality over the short term.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time for travel near the affected site. Follow all instructions from security personnel, including any evacuation orders. Consider remaining indoors to avoid smoke exposure, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness, such as asthma, or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
