Serbia: Environmental activists to demonstrate in central Belgrade Sept. 1

Environmental activists to protest at Takovska Street, Belgrade, Serbia, from 19:00 Sept. 1. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Environmental activists affiliated with the Citizens' Association Eco Guard plan to protest at the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) headquarters on Takovska Street, Belgrade, from 19:00 Sept. 1. The demonstration's purpose is to demand better media coverage of environmental activism. In recent weeks, environmental activists organized major protests across Serbia, denouncing the construction of lithium mines in Serbia's western Jadar region. Several hundred to the low thousand participants are likely to attend the event on Sept. 1.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time for travel near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
