Demonstrators are clashing with police in parts of central Hull as of late afternoon Aug. 3. Protesters have also reportedly started multiple fires in the city center, and heavy smoke is reported between Queen Victoria Square and Spring Bank. Demonstrators initially gathered at Queen Victoria Square but have reportedly spread to other areas of the city center, including near Hull Train Station. At least three police officers have been injured. Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area.
Sporadic clashes will likely continue through late Aug. 3; confrontations could abate in some locations before restarting elsewhere in the city. Heightened security deployments and transport disruptions will almost certainly extend into the morning hours of Aug. 4. Significant business disruptions are likely in central Hull.
Strictly avoid all demonstrations. Allow additional time for traveling in central Hull. Heed all instructions from authorities. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
