Warning

Emergency crews are responding to a fire in an apartment tower on Fairmont Avenue in Blackwall, east London, as of afternoon Aug. 26. Around 70 firefighters are reportedly responding at the scene. The cause of the blaze remains unclear, and there are no immediate reports of casualties. The fire is reportedly causing glass and cladding to fall from the building onto surrounding areas and is also producing significant amounts of thick smoke.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until the fire has been completely extinguished. Transport and business disruptions are likely near the incident site until late Aug. 26 or until the fire is extinguished.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time for travel near the scene of the fire. Follow all instructions from security personnel, including any evacuation orders. Consider remaining indoors to avoid smoke exposure, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
