UK: Unionized LNER train drivers plan to strike in England and Scotland every weekend Aug. 31-Nov. 10

Unionized London North Eastern Railway (LNER) drivers servicing England and Scotland affiliated with the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) plan to strike on all LNER services Aug. 31-Sept. 1. The drivers plan to repeat the action on every subsequent weekend through Nov. 10. The action has been called to demand improved working conditions.

The action could be called off in the case of successful negotiations between ASLEF and LNER. Train disruptions, including widespread or complete service cancellations, are likely during each strike day. Picket protests are possible at rail stations and rail operator headquarters; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that occur.
