US: Flight disruptions affecting airports in Mid-Atlantic region as of Aug. 29 due to severe weather /update 1

Severe weather causing flight disruptions at airports in Philadelphia, Penn., Washington, DC and New York metropolitan areas, US, Aug. 29.

Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, are affecting airports in Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and the New York metropolitan area on Aug. 29 due to severe weather impacting the region. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued ground stop programs for Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) in Maryland until at least 20:00. Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Northern Virginia is under a ground stop until at least 20:00, and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) until at least 21:00. LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York City is affected until at least 20:30. The FAA may modify, expand, or rescind these air traffic control programs on short notice.

The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the Mid-Atlantic Region over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible through early Aug. 30, even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.

Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via PHL, BWI, DCA, LGA, or IAD, Aug. 29-30. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
