US: Flight disruptions affecting airports in Philadelphia, Pa., and New York metropolitan area as of late Aug. 29 due to severe weather

Flight disruptions, including delays, are affecting airports in the New York City metropolitan area and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as of late Aug. 29 due to severe weather impacting the region. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued ground stop programs for La Guardia International (LGA) and Philadelphia International (PHL) airports until at least 22:30. The FAA has also noted departure delays averaging 90 minutes for LGA, 120 minutes for PHL, 45 minutes for Newark Liberty International (EWR), and 75 minutes for John F. Kennedy International (JFK). The FAA may modify or rescind the abovementioned air traffic control programs on short notice.

The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the New York metropolitan area over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible through the morning of Aug. 30 even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.

Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via PHL, EWR, LGA, JFK, or other airports in the New York metropolitan area through at least late Aug. 30. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
